lexus, our inspiration

In June 2010 Robin and Rich were again called upon to intervene on behalf of another “vicious” greyhound, Ray, in upstate New York, who was being held in a kill shelter under a ten day quarantine after he bit the woman fostering him; she had tried to take food away from him while he was eating “to train him”. Luckily for Ray, because his adoption group was involved from the beginning and because Robin and Rich became involved before any action was taken to declare Ray vicious, they were able to intervene with the County and negotiate his release and removal once his quarantine had ended. Recognizing that these situations will continue to occur, and that most adoption groups are ill-prepared and lack the knowledge and resources to either negotiate a settlement with the authorities that will not harm the greyhound, or, if negotiations fail, litigate these matters, the Lexus Project is available to help.

The purpose of this website is to provide information, insights and resources to deal with these situations (which hopefully will be few and far between), and contact information to support the groups that are involved. The Lexus Project will be setting up a network of volunteers and want to hear from anyone who is willing to assist in saving these dogs, and attorneys who will volunteer their time to help fight these cases. Groups that can take in, rehabilitate and re-home the dogs The Lexus Project is able to get released are also needed throughout the US. In dealing with these situations the earlier The Lexus Project is able to get involved the greater the chances we can save the greyhound and avoid litigation. If you know of a case where a greyhound is in peril of being declared a vicious dog, please contact The Lexus Project immediately so that we can make our inquiries and coordinate the efforts to save the greyhound. Waiting to see what happens before intervening will usually work out poorly for the greyhound.
