The Lexus Project was contacted by a greyhound friend on Facebook who asked us if we would help Luna, a pretty Siberian Husky who had been in a CT pound  in solitary confinement for 6 weeks awaiting death.  On 2 separate occasions, Luna had escaped through her electric fence, broke into the neighbors chicken coop and  killed several chickens. Huskies have a tendency to get out of their yards and roam; her owner was complacent about keeping the yard secure for Luna and refused to put in a real fence because ”that would make her crazy”. The neighbors had had enough of Luna visiting their chicken pen and called the town ACO. Luna was not a stranger to this pound having been found roaming too many times to court over the last 5 years of her life. She is five years old.

The Lexus Project got involved and with the help of Alexandrea Issac  and Rachel Fleck, her paralegal of the law firm of Saxe, Doernberger and Vita was able to get a stay of execution. Once the town attorney saw the complaint and realized that the disposal order did not meet the requirements of the CT statute, he entered into a settlement with The Lexus Project, which was a "win-win" for everyone, especially Luna. Luna was transported to MA for a much need vacation in the Berkshires.  Her foster mom is Husky savvy, has a secured yard, many husky friends for Luna to play with and is loved. We want to thank Ruth H. for opening her heart and home to this wonderful girl. We love you both!

Luna gained a lot of media attention because of her facebook page and as a result of our involvement, the Lexus Project made two major decisions: The first was that we could no longer close our eyes to any dog unjustly imprisoned or facing execution. Because of this, the Lexus Project is  now defending all breeds.  The second major decision occurred as a result of how antiquated and unfair the CT laws are. The Lexus Project in partnership with the Animal Legal Defense Fund ( has  started “The Luna Initiative” to examine the dog laws of all 50 states and with the help of volunteers in each state challenge the bad ones.
